Zero Motorcycles has introduced a new line of accessories and apparel to supplement its electric motorcycle offerings.
The official Zero Motorcycles Shop offers a number of add-ons to improve comfort and/or performance, allowing Zero owners to customize their motorcycles to their preferences. Most items are designed for the Zero S and DS but some can also be used on other Zero models such as the FX and XU.
One item that may interest Zero owners is the quick charger which Zero says will cut charging times in half, at a cost of $600. A pricier option is the $1, 800 charger kit which allows owners to use the rapidly expanding CHAdeMO charging station network. Zero claims a CHAdeMO station can provide a 95% charge in under an hour. An estimated 2000 CHAdeMO charging stations will be installed across the U.S. by the end of 2014, including 400 in California alone.
Gearing options for the Zero S and Zero DS allow owners to manage torque output and top speed. According to Zero, the higher speed wheel and motor sprocket kit increases the Zero S’ top speed from 95 mph to 107 mph, though torque will decrease from 321 ft-lb. to 267 ft-lb. Conversely, a higher torque motor increases out put to a claimed 359 ft-lb. while sacrificing top speed.
According to Zero, bolted-on accessories are eligible for a 10% federal tax credit, when purchased along with an electric motorcycle. Charging accessories however are eligible for a 30% tax rebate, and they don’t have to be purchased at the same time as an electric motorcycle.
The Zero apparel line includes both riding gear as well as casual wear, all bearing the Zero brand.
