Aespa Will Bring Larger Than Life 'Drama' on Fourth Mini Album

There’s enough drama to go around for Aespa as the K-pop sensations gear up for the release of their fourth mini-album Drama, out Nov. 10. In the introductory trailer for the project, the four-piece girl group is larger than life, creating optical illusions that reflect the magnitude of their own stardom.

“This album showcases aespa’s vocal growth with a variety of genres including charismatic hip-hop, lovely bright dance music, and sweet acoustic pop,” a description of the record on the official Aespa store reads. “With this album, aespa brings a new chapter to their SMCU lore by writing stories on their own way through unique music and visuals.”

The mini-album will also build on a previous narrative thread as Aespa is found “now breaking out from the trauma caused by a series of events with Season 1’s ‘SYNK OUT’ and ‘Hallucination Quest,’ and also the unknown anomalies in Season 2,” according to the SM entertainment release.

Drama will feature six songs, including the title track and the lead single, “Better Things.”

The quartet of Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning have come a long way since making their mid-pandemic debut in November 2020. Last month, they wrapped their first-ever global tour, which made stops everywhere from Los Angeles and Chicago to Santiago and Paris. They also performed at Coachella last year and inked a deal with Warner Records.

“It was during our ‘Black Mamba’ promotion period, when we were all in awe and overwhelmed by the immediate love and support following our debut,” Winter told Rolling Stone in 2021, thinking back to a particularly pivotal moment for Aespa as a collective. “We went for a long walk together to refresh and had a heart-to-heart about how each one of us was feeling. It meant a lot to be able to share my personal feelings with the members. They understand me better than anyone else and I was reminded of that in that moment, so it was truly special.”
