Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update addressed several elements of the presidential transition process, including a new portrait of Donald Trump, figures like Mark Zuckerberg cozying up to the president-elect, and some of President Joe Biden’s final actions while in office.
“It’s the dawn of anew era,” co-anchor Colin Jost began.“Donald Trump released hisofficial inaugural portrait, andthe photo is lit, I assume, by hell opening up.”
“Trump is trying to look sohardcore in his photo, I’msurprised he didn’t add aparental advisory sticker and adurag,” he joked.
“And then Trump also released theofficial portrait of J.D. Vance,” he continued, as an anonymous gray avatar showed on screen.
Later, Jost addressed the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. In other words, Jost said, the two parties “committed totheir version of Dry January.”
“President Biden said that theIsrael/Hamas cease-fire talkswere one of the toughestnegotiations he had everexperienced,” Jost continued. “The hardest part was convincingboth sides that he was still thepresident.”
Michael Che then reacted to Biden naming Navy aircraft carriers after two of his predecessors: George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
“The carrier will also honor BillClinton by being covered inseamen,” Che quipped.
As for Zuckerberg, who donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee and made the Trump-friendly move of nixing fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram, Jost’s line was succinct:
“Meta CEO and Puerto Rican gigolo Mark Zuckerberg flew down to Mar-a-Lago tomeet with Donald Trump, and boyare his knees tired.”
