The zombies are still on the prowl in 28 Years Later, a long-awaited sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. In the first trailer for the film, directed by Danny Boyle, a group of survivors come up against those rage virus-infected zombies, as well as some strange fellow humans.
The unsettling trailer is set to a Taylor Holmes recording of Rudyard Kipling’s war poem Boots, and it showcases Aaron Taylor-Johnson wielding a bow and arrow as he leaves his island settlement. Later, the clip appears to show a zombie coming after Jodie Comer.
The official synopsis notes, “Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new story set in the world created by 28 Days Later. It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
Sony’s tagline for 28 Years Later is, fittingly, “Time didn’t heal anything.”The film hits theaters on June 20, 2025, and will serve as the first part of a28 Years Latertrilogy planned by Boyle and Garland. It also stars Jack O’Connell and Alfie Williams.
