Día de los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, is just around the corner, and Barbie is celebrating in a big way. Mattel has released two new signature collectible dolls — Barbie and Ken — dressed in traditional ceremonial attire honoring the holiday.
The newly dropped Barbie doll is available at major stores like Walmart and Amazon for under $100, while Ken retails for $75 at Walmart. Barbie wears an intricate embroidered gown, complete with face paint and ornate hair accessories. While Ken dons a sombrero, a matching pants and vest set, and a bolo tie.

“The doll is perfect, worth the money, colors are accurate, love the articulated body,” said one Amazon customer.
“Absolutely stunning, Barbie doll. Firstly, it came perfectly packaged, so no damage was done to the Barbie box itself. The doll is extremely well made, the detail is perfect, and the clothing is great quality with perfect detailing,” wrote another.
Taking place this year from Nov. 1 to 2, 2025, Día de los Muertos traditions include creating an ofrenda (altar) with photos, candles, flowers, and music to remember those who have died. The belief is that during this time period, spirits are able to come back to earth and visit with their family and friends. According to historians, the holiday itself has origins that trace back more than 3,000 years.
Whether you observe the event in your own home or are an avid doll enthusiast, the Barbie and Ken Día de los Muertos dolls are a great collector’s piece.

“Beautiful packaging, detailed high-quality craftsmanship, well-made traditional charro suit with close attention to details, great face and hands makeup, nice sombrero. A real homage to Mexican culture and traditions,” wrote one Walmart customer.
Don’t believe us? For years, Mattel has been dropping special themed dolls, including some of their most popular editions like the annual Holiday Doll, their musician and sports collabs, and even partnerships with popular snack brands like Little Debbie. While the price for these limited deals may give you a little bit of sticker shock at first (considering they are plastic figurines), they can pay off in the long run.
If you go on eBay, a Barbie Holiday Doll from 1994 is going for $4100,000, while the 2001 Holiday Doll is fetching up to $45,000. There’s no guarantee the Día de los Muertos dolls will reach those heights, but as history has shown with collectibles like Beanie Babies and Labubus, they could be a solid investment piece in the future.
And if you’re looking to expand your collection even further, this year’s lineup also includes unique releases like the LeBron James Ken Doll, the Barbie Fashionista with Type 1 Diabetes, and the Patti Wilson Doll.
