Nearly 250 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the British have pulled off a stunning coup against the United States: They’ve booked Morgan Wallen to play London’s Hyde Park on Independence Day.
The country superstar will headline the one-night-only gig on July 4, with additional supporting acts to be announced soon. Tickets for the concert will go on sale March 13.
Since the late Sixties, Hyde Park has hosted an array of massive and fabled concerts: Pink Floyd were the first rock band ever to perform there in 1968, and the Rolling Stones played there just two days after the death of former member Brian Jones in 1969 (it was also the Stones’ first live show in two years at the time). In more recent decades, Hyde Park has hosted a regular summer concert series, with everyone from Bruce Springsteen and the Cure to Blackpink and Adele taking the stage.
Wallen acknowledged all this history in a statement saying, “To play where legendary artists like Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones have played is a huge honor for me and my band, and we can’t wait to be back.”
The news of the Hyde Park concert fittingly comes on the heels of Wallen’s recent surprise release, the Abbey Road Sessions. Wallen and his band cut the project at the legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road Studio on Dec. 5, 2023. The release features five songs from Wallen’s smash 2023 album One Thing at a Time, a previously unreleased track “Lies Lies Lies,” and a cover of Nothing But Thieves’ “Graveyard Whistling.”
Wallen will spend much of 2024 touring North America in support of One Thing at a Time. He’ll return to the road April 4 in Indianapolis, Indiana, with dates scheduled through Aug. 9 in Las Vegas.
