Wanna See Jacob Elordi's Face When He Smells His Own 'Saltburn' Bathwater Candle?

One of the most unforgettable scenes in Saltburn — as in, once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it, like many scenes in the surprisingly delightful cringefest — portrays Barry Keoghan lapping up Jacob Elordi‘s bathwater after the latter actor, uh, gratified himself in the tub. Of course, because the sight is startling and intriguing, the People of the Internet have made candles — many of them — dubbed “Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater” to give curious viewers a similar experience to Keoghan’s. On Thursday night, Elordi took a whiff for himself.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host produced one of the waxen cocktails and asked, “Do you want to smell your own candle?” Elordi, feeling like an animal trapped in a cage with no right to refuse since he had to flog his hosting gig on Saturday Night Live this weekend, capitulated reluctantly.

Then he realized he could have fun with it. He held the candle to his nose for a second and then stuck his tongue to it, just like Keoghan had until Fallon, towering with laughter, gestured for him to stop.

“How does it smell? Does it smell anything like you?” Fallon asked.

“It smells like a washing room,” the actor said. “Like detergent.”

“That’s not bad,” Fallon said. “Yeah, you’ve got a good scent to you. You smell very clean.” Fallon took a moment to fill his own lungs with the aroma and said, “Yeah, I like it.”

Before smelling it, though, Elordi had a revelation about all the candles. “I wanna know who’s making the money,” he said.

One person who is making money collaterally from Saltburn‘s success is singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose 2001 single “Murder on the Dancefloor” has run up that hill to a surprise resurgence, thanks to the movie’s final (and also unforgettable, as in you can’t unsee it) final scene. She’ll be re-releasing it as a vinyl seven-inch two days late to stuff in a giant heart for you to give your lover on Valentine’s Day, on Feb. 16. (There’s probably still time to order a candle, though.)

Earlier this month, she told the BBC she both liked the movie (and the song’s success) but felt uncomfortable watching it with her mother and son on a couch because (please re-read the rest of this article from the beginning). “I wasn’t worried about my mum, I was worried about how my son was feeling about being between his mum and his grandma while he’s watching all these scenes,” she said. “But he was fine. He was like, ‘That was in my top 10 favorite films I’ve ever seen.’”
