See Bill Murray, Original Ghostbusters Cast Return in 'Frozen Empire' Trailer

Bill Murray gets in uniform and returns to the Ghostbusters franchise as Peter Venkman. In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, premiering March 22, new and old ghost hunters join forces tosave the world from a second Ice Age.

Piecing together flashbacks from the original 1984 film and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the trailer follows the Spengler Family as they team up with the original gang to bust ghostly creatures as the city freezes over.

“Heads up. Tall, dark, and horny at 12 o’clock,” Murray says when met with a towering, glowy-eyed beast. The trailer concludes with slimy, familiar figure Slimer, aka “The Mean Green Ghost,” escaping from a pile of food wrappers.

Based on the 1984 Ghostbusters film, Murray joins original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. The 1984 film snagged two Oscar nominations for visual effects and music, along with several Golden Globe nominations including Murray getting a nod for best performance by an actor in a comedy or musical.

In April 2022, Murray was accused of “inappropriate behavior” by a woman on the set of Being Mortal. The actor later paid the “much younger” production assistant $100,000 in exchange for confidentiality and a halt to further legal action, according to Puck News. Production had not resumed on the project, as of October 2022.

The latest film is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife where a single mom and her two kids discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters. The 2021 and 2024 film both star Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim.

Gil Kenan directed and wrote the script for Frozen Empire. Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan directed the first two Ghostbusters films, also writes and produces Frozen Empire. The father and son duo produced Frozen Empire with Jason Blumenfeld. The film is executive produced by Aykroyd, Gil Kenan, JoAnn Perritano, Amie Karp, Erica Mills, and Eric Reich.
