Jennifer Lopez Must Save Mankind in Teaser for Sci-Fi Flick 'Atlas'

Fresh off starring in her This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, Jennifer Lopez will return to the small screen this Memorial Day weekend with the sci-fi flick Atlas.

In the teaser for the film, arriving May 24 on Netflix, Lopez is on a solo mission to save mankind with help from a well-armed robot suit. “The future of humanity is in her hands,” the tagline warns.

The streaming service’s synopsis reads, “Atlas Shepherd (Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.”

Atlas, directed by Brad Peyton, also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. The film marks a rare foray into the world of science fiction for Lopez, whose last starring role in a sci-fi-qualifying film was 2000’s The Cell.

Lopez recently starred in the Prime Video double feature This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, a visual companion to her new album, and the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

In arecent interview withRolling Stone,Lopez shared: “This Is Me… Nowis actually accepting who I am. It’s saying, ‘This is me now! This is who I am and I embrace that fully with all the scars, mistakes, and all of the amazing accomplishments, and beauty, and all of the different things that are me. At this moment in time, I’m going to accept and love that person.”
