A day after Rudy Giuliani was hit with a massive, $148 million judgement in a defamation case brought by two Atlanta poll workers, SNL‘s Weekend Update rubbed in the consequences of his many false claims.
“You might as well just make it abillion [dollars], because there’s no wayhe can pay it.At this point, they only callGiuliani the mayor of 9/11because that’s all that’s leftin his bank account,” Jost joked.
Giuliani’s lawyer had told the eight-person Washington, D.C. jury this week that if they were to award the plaintiffs $43 million–the amount they had claimed–then that would amount to “the civil equivalent of the death penalty” for his client.
Jost went on, as a picture showed on screen of the disgraced Trump ally with black shoe dye running down his face during one of his post-election conspiracy mongering press conferences.
“Giuliani–amazingly, seen here inbetter times–said during thetrial that it was an accidentthat he attacked the plaintiffsrepeatedly on social media, withthe judge noting there’s a lotof accidents going on,” Jost commented.“Said Giuliani, ‘Oh, you couldsmell that?’”
Giuliani, of course, is also facing prosecution in a Georgia RICO case related to Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, so his legal troubles are far from over.
Later in the segment, Jost and co-anchor Michael Che made their highly anticipated exchange of jokes.
