Earlier this summer, it was reported that Donald Glover (and his brother Stephen) were working with Disney+ and the Star Wars universe to create a series spinoff of his character Lando Calrissian. Well, turns out it’ll actually be a movie.
On Thursday, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety that Lando will be a film, serving as a spin-off to the character he played in Star Wars film, Solo, after Stephen Glover said so on a new podcast.
“It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie,” Stephen Glover told the Pablo Torre Finds Out show earlier on Thursday. “Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.”
ALandoseries had been on theDisney docket since 2020, two years after Glover played a young version of the character (originally played by Billy Dee Williams) in the 2018 movie,Solo. The Glovers reportedly signed the deal to write the new series in May, before the Writers Guild of America strike started.
WhenLandowas first announced a couple of years ago, Justin Simien (Dear White People) was attached to write the project. Hours before the news that the Glovers were taking over the series broke,THRpublished an interview with Simien where he admitted he didn’t “really know” if he was still attached to the project.
