Fox News Blitzes Airwaves With Sydney Sweeney Coverage Amid Epstein Scandal

Sydney Sweeney absolutely caused a digital kerfuffle with her “good jeans” advertising campaign with American Eagle, but it’s actually not crybaby liberals who are hopelessly obsessing over the Euphoria actor’s jeans, genes, body, and politics — it’s Republicans and Fox News.

According to a report published by CNN’s Reliable Sources on Tuesday, over the course of a single week, Fox News mentioned Sweeney at least 766 times, compared to only 53 mentions of Jeffrey Epstein and the scandal surrounding President Donald Trump’s relationship with the convicted sex offender, and his administration’s handling of the government’s files related to his case.

While criticism of the ad went viral on some social media platforms, much of the initial attention garnered by the campaign came from far-right accounts who lauded the ad as an example of an anti-woke, ani-DEI aesthetic revival. As pointed out by CNN, no prominent Democratic lawmakers have weighed in on the situation, but the clamor on the right has gotten so intense that even the president his talking about it

Trump told reporters he “loved” Sweeney’s ad after learning that she is a registered Republican over the weekend before bringing up the ad again on Monday.

“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!” he wrote on Truth Social, also taking the opportunity to revive his one-sided feud with Taylor Swift.

Meanwhile, controversy continues to swirl over the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein case. The administration is currently facing widespread blowback for their decision to transfer his partner, convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, to a minimum-security facility in Texas. The Justice Department interviewed Maxwell last week, and CNN reported on Tuesday that the administration is considering releasing transcripts.

Sweeney’s ad isn’t the only way the administration and its allies are trying to distract from the Epstein case. On Wednesday of last week, Media Matters for American found that between July 18 and July 28 the network had aired 168 segments highlighting unsubstantiated allegations that former President Barack Obama manufactured intelligence against Trump during the 2016 election, as Trump desperately tries to revive scrutiny of the Russia “hoax.”

It’s no surprise that Fox News would rather manufacture an outrage cycle about the Russia investigation or Sydney Sweeney than talk about the dead sex offender known to pal around with the president. After all, Trump is usually watching.
