Bill Hader and Stephen Colbert were in a bunch of movies with hilarious premises that neither of them initially recalled, so they peruse the film posters to jog their memories in their “Maybe Coming Soon” bit from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
With an infectious laugh, Hader attempts to explain the ideas behind the fake films the two supposedly starred in during the bit. The poster for Friends in Small Places features a large Colbert holding a tiny Hader in the palm of his gigantic hand. “I do remember this was a pitch that I had when I was on mescaline,” Hader deadpans.
Cops and Gobblers is a film where they play vegan cops, trying to save turkeys from Thanksgiving. “It was the title for a porn movie that we actually had to pay them off,” Hader jokingly explains. Meanwhile Galileo’s Bones, where Colbert plays a Tibetan monk, originally starred Tom Hanks. However, Hader got the role. “I remember I got the part because I had come up with the tag line,” which reads, “Inside every great scientist…is a bunch of bones.”
During Colbert, the pair also discussed Hader’s HBO show Barry, the origins of his Saturday Night Live character Stefon—which sprung from his serious anxiety when doing live television and he delivers a funny James Mason impersonation.
