Bill Burr is turning his recent stand-up special, Drop Dead Years, into his first streaming album, set to arrive Aug. 1 via 800 Pound Gorilla and All Things Comedy.
The first track from Drop Dead Years is available to stream now, while the album is also available to pre-order. Burr filmed the special in June 2024 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, and it premiered on Hulu in March.
Drop Dead Years marked Burr’s eighth hour-long stand-up special, and first since 2022, when he released both Friends Who Kill and Live at Red Rocks. The new special was described as Burr’s “most personal introspective hour yet,” with the comedian pairing broad jokes about politics and culture with more intimate bits about mental health, aging, and mortality.
The special recently received a pair of Emmy nominations, too, for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) and Outstanding Editing for Variety Programming.
Burr has continued to play theaters around the world this year on his “Bill Burr Live” tour, though he was off the road for a few months this spring as he made his Broadway debut in a revival of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross. The production featured a stacked cast that also included Bob Odenkirk, Kieran Culkin, and Michael McKean.
Additionally, Burr is gearing up to direct and star-in his second feature film, Born Losers, which is slated to film this fall. Burr co-wrote the script with Ben Tishler, with whom he also wrote his 2023 directorial debut, Old Dads. No other details about the film have been revealed, including a plot synopsis or who else is set to appear in the cast alongside Burr.
