There are certain risks you run when filming on location. For instance, say it’s the late Nineties and you’re out in the swamps of Southern Florida filming the erotic thriller Wild Things. Odds are you’ll get some mosquito bites, you might encounter an alligator, or even a corpse.
According to Kevin Bacon, who starred in that 1998 movie, that’s exactly what happened. He shared the story in a new interview with Variety, recalling a night shooting a scene by a river, during which the production crew had floated a raft onto the water to stage a light.
“All of a sudden, I hear across the walkie-talkie, ‘Hey, I think I just saw a floater,’” Bacon recalled with a laugh. “And it was a body that was floating by. That was kind of indicative of the vibe of the movie.” (A fai enough assessment for an over-the-top flick about the conspiracy that’s uncovered after a police officer begins investigating accusations of rape two high school students have brought against their guidance counselor.)
For those thinking that sounds a little too farfetched, Wild Things director John McNaughton confirmed the incident in an interview with Entertainment Weekly back when the movie was originally released. “We called the police, and they actually grabbed the body and kept it from getting into our shot,” McNaughton said at the time.
Bacon is currently starring in the new Prime Video action series, The Bondsman, about a bounty hunter who comes back from the dead. He’s also set to star alongside Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, and Milly Alcock in the upcoming limited series, Sirens, which arrives on Netflix on May 22.
