Pedro Pascal Gets Into a Bloody Mess in Normani-Starring 'Freaky Tales' Trailer

Freaky Tales is finally on its way. On Tuesday, Lionsgate released the bloody, action-packed trailer for the upcoming film which stars Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Normani, Tom Hanks, and the late Angus Cloud. It’s set to release on April 4.

The flashback trailer opens with Pascal’s character Clint narrating the 1987-set Oakland story as clips of Normani portraying a musician flash by. “The underdog thinks he can do the impossible: to feed the bully, sell enough mixtapes to get out of the hood,” says Clint. “I can say with certainty, this underdog has seen his last day.”

A different narrator then takes over to show Clint targeting Sleepy Floyd (Ellis) despite having decided to retire from the killer job. The trailer then flashes to Normani performing, mysterious secret video rooms, and Angus Cloud in one of his final acting roles. It ends with Ellis wielding a long knife and cutting things up in an action-packed sequence.

A synopsis for the film describes it as “a multi-track mixtape of colorful characters — an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a debt collector — on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles.”

The movie was executive-produced by Too $hort and was written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who worked on 2019’s Captain Marvel. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year.

Normani teased her role as Entice in a December interview with Rolling Stone. “I feel like I align with Entice, my character, so much, when I just think about myself in the very beginning of my career, and especially in such a male-dominated industry,” she told Rolling Stone at the time. “I was 16, and it just took a lot of courage and strength and guts. It was really cool to tap into a space that I’m not typically in and be creative in a different way.”

“I felt like it was also a breath of fresh air for me to have that while working on the album,” she added. “Being able to be creative outside of just music alone was refreshing. I feel like it was a palette cleanser.”
