Laughter wasn’t the only thing that was contagious during SNL50 on Sunday night. Steve Martin confirmed that both Martin Short and Maya Rudolph caught Covid during the anniversary show, which aired on NBC and Peacock.
Martin posted a photograph of Short and Rudolph kissing during the celebration on Instagram, writing, “Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real.”
The actor and comedian added that in light of the news he and Short were postponing two dates on their joint tour, The Dukes of Funnytown Tour. The duo was scheduled to perform at Durham Performing Arts Center on Feb. 22, and Knoxville Civic Auditorium on Feb. 23.
“Unfortunately, we have to reschedule our sold out Durham and Knoxville dates to 10/17 Knoxville and 10/18 Durham,” Martin noted. “So sorry for the inconvenience. I think we’ll be funnier then, anyway.”
Rudolph herself hasn’t spoke out about her illness. However, during the SNL50 show Colin Jost quipped that it might not have been such a good idea to cram so many comedy legends into the studio.
“Health experts are facing increased pressure this winter in the face of outbreaks of COVID, the flu, RSV, and nanovirus, which they’re calling a quad-demic,” Jost said. “So we did the smart thing and packed every beloved entertainer over 60 into one tiny space.”
SNL50 celebrated the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live. Martin delivered the monologue, with Short making an appearance during the segment. “Saturday Night Live, as youknow, turned 50 years old thisyear, and I turned 79. But I feel like I’m 65, which isalso not good,” Martin joked. “Seriously, I do not mindgetting older.Do you think these hearing aidsmake my ass look smaller?I do.”
