Anna Kendrick‘s Stephanie Smothers and Blake Lively‘s Emily Nelson reunite for a wedding in the official teaser trailer for Paul Feig‘s Another Simple Favor. Nelson is the one getting married, but her real union is with Smothers — and the pair are bound together by murder, mystery, and betrayal until death do them part.
Premiering March 7 at SXSW ahead of a wide streaming release on Prime Video beginning May 1, Another Simple Favor catches up with the pair as Nelson is released from prison after being sentenced to 20 years thanks to Smothers secretly live-streaming her confession to a double murder. In the trailer, Smothers is hosting a reading for her book “The Faceless Blonde” just as the blonde in question walks into the room to ask her to be her maid of honor.
Nelson is engaged to a rich Italian businessman on the island of Capri, Italy, and insists that Smothers be by her side for the lavish event. “Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square,” a synopsis of the film reads. In place of something borrowed and something blue, Nelson ends up with some spilled blood and someone in a body bag.
In January, Feig debunked rumors that the sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor would be indefinitely delayed amid Lively’s ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar Justin Baldoni. Earlier this month, following the announcement of the film’s premiere and official release dates, the director commented in response to a fan asking, “Is it Paul Feig’s cut or Blake’s cut?”
“It’s my cut. There is no other cut,” he said in response to the reference to claims that two versions ofIt Ends With Uswere created, one by Lively and one by Baldoni, its director. “Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with. She is the best and an amazing collaborator and I’m her biggest fan. Just wanted to clear that up.”
