Wrong time, wrong place? The trailer for Darren Aronofsky‘s latest film, Caught Stealing, dropped on Wednesday, following Austin Butler as he gets swept up in a criminal enterprise.
Butler stars as Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who lands himself in trouble after agreeing to house-sit for a neighbor, who is involved in some not-so-legal extracurricular activities. When two gun-wielding men come looking for the neighbor, Butler “unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined,” per the official logline.
“These guys you’re messed up with, they’re scary monsters,” a cop tells Butler.
The trailer features several car chases, plenty of punches thrown, and enough “what the fucks” to establish the film’s energetically chaotic vibe.
“Either we go deeper or we get out,” says Zoe Kravitz, who stars as Butler’s love interest. “I don’t want out,” Butler replies.
Bad Bunny, Matt Smith, Regina King, Vincent D’Onofrio, Action Bronson, and Liev Schreiber help round out the cast.
Caught Stealing was written by Charlie Huston and adapted from his book series by the same name.
“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” Aronofskypreviously said of working on the film.
Caught Stealing will hit theaters Aug. 29.
