In a new trailer for Based on a True Story, Kaley Cuoco‘s Ava recruits her toddler, nicknamed “murder bunny,” to help dissect her living room evidence board. When a friend asks Ava whether she’s monitoring the crop of murders in the neighborhood, Ava immediately denies it.
“The only investigating I’m doing these days is who shit their pants,” Cuoco’s Ava quips in the teaser, sitting beside her baby. “All signs lead to that guy.”
In the second season of Based on a True Story, Ava and Nathan, played by Chris Messina, are three months into parenthood and attempting to return to their normal lives. In an effort to resist their true crime podcasting habits, Ava returns to her real estate gig and Nathan leads private tennis lessons. To no surprise, a series of murders draw the podcast moguls back in, leading them to question who is behind the killing spree. To make matters worse, Ava’s sister Tory (Liana Liberato) just got engaged to recovering-serial killer Matt (Tom Bateman).
Showrunner Annie Weisman praised Cuoco’s and Messina’s “comedic chemistry” along with Bateman’s “charming and chilling” performance in a statement. New cast member Melissa Fumero, who plays Ava’s friend, also joins the eight-episode comedy.
“I first discoveredBased on a True Storyas a fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, and I instantly loved the show’s addictive blend of dark humor, pulpy action, and relatable characters,” Weisman said. “In Season Two, we’ve built on those exciting themes while introducing propulsive new character dynamics and a forward-moving murder mystery.”
