It’s not Halloween season yet but some of the most intriguing Hulu debuts look pretty unsettling. One new series uses a creepy thriller to explore issues of race while the latest American Horror Story season focuses on pregnancy and motherhood. There’s plenty for the faint of heart, too, from a new game show to the return of a popular sports reality series. On the movie front, one of the best films of 2022 provides an early-month highlight, so let’s start there. (Get a Hulu subscription HERE.)

But first things first: Watch all of these shows and movies on Hulu with one of the streamer’s membership packages. Your subscription continues for as little as $7.99/month (or $79.99/year).

What to Stream on Hulu September 2023

Here’s everything you need to watch with your Hulu subscription this month.

The Banshees of Inisherin (September 4)

This acclaimed 2022 film from Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) is a kind of double homecoming. It’s the first film the writer and director has made in his native Ireland and it reunites the stars of his debut feature, In Bruges. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson co-star as longtime pals in 1920s Ireland whose friendship ends abruptly. And if you haven’t yet seen this funny, bittersweet, haunting film, it’s probably best to go in knowing nothing more. Stream it on Hulu

The Other Black Girl (September 13)

Adapting a 2021 novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, this new series stars Sinclair Daniel as Nella, an editorial assistant at a publishing house. She’s also the only Black woman in the company’s employ until the arrival of Hazel (Ashleigh Murray). But there’s something off about Hazel, even if only Nella seems to notice it in a thriller that takes some dark turns. Stream it on Hulu

Welcome to Wrexham: Season Two Premiere (September 13)

Sanctuary (September 21)

One of the most talked-about films at last fall’s Toronto Film Festival, this two-character drama (or maybe comedy or romance) stars Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott as, respectively, a dominatrix named Rebecca and her client, Hal. They enjoy a seemingly mutually satisfying relationship, but it starts to take form when Hal declares his new job means it has to end and Rebecca announces that she has other plans for their future. Stream it on Hulu

What’s Love Got to Do With It? (September 23)

When Zoe (Lily James), a luckless-in-love documentary filmmaker, decides to make a film about her lifelong friend Kaz (Shazad Latif) as he travels to London to meet the bride he’s to wed as part of an arranged marriage, Zoe doesn’t think she’ll be the one falling in love. But could she be wrong? Emma Thompson co-stars in this new rom-com that is not the same film as the 1993 Tina Turner biopic, despite its name. Stream it on Hulu
