Billy Ray Cyrus Speaks Out After Online Feud With Son: 'Praying for My Family'

Following Billy Ray Cyrus‘ whisper-toned performance at the Liberty Inaugural Ball Jan. 20, a family member and online fans have expressed concern for the country star. Cyrus took the mic again, this time to spread a message of “healing.” He shared a music video to his 2009 track, “Somebody Said a Prayer” featuring his son, Trace Cyrus, who has been outspoken around his father’s mental and physical health.

“Sunday callin,” the elder Cyrus wrote in the caption of a YouTube video posted on Sunday. “Giving thanks for the California Rain. Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children… sons and daughters… and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. The past does not equal the future. Amen.”

In an open letter published last week, Trace Cyrus wrote that his father is someone “I barely recognize now.” Trace Cyrus, who is an adopted son to Billy Ray, added that his sisters Miley and Noah have shared similar concern for the star. Although Trace Cyrus admitted to not knowing what his father was “struggling with,” he shared that he had been sober from alcohol for more than a year and a half and was willing to help his father.

“You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it,” Trace Cyrus wrote in an Instagram post. “Just like I showed up for you at mamaws funeral when you didn’t expect me to I’m still here right now. As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.”

In a post made over the weekend, Trace Cyrus alleged that his father had threatened him with legal action after sharing his heartfelt message to help. His sisters Miley and Noah, have yet to make a public statement surrounding their father’s health. “I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man,” Trace Cyrus wrote in the post. “Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not. Get help.”

The concerned post stemmed from the country artist’s Jan. 20 performance where he faced several technical difficulties. Viewers watched as the country artist mouthed the words to Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” with a muted microphone and guitar. Then, Cyrus meandered across the stage singing in a low voice to “Achy Breaky Heart,” his 1992 hit. Online users called the country artist’s performance a “train wreck” and an “epic disaster.”Cyrus, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by online critics, in a Jan. 21 post.

“I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell,” he said in his Instagram post. “I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!”
