The most recent press tour Blake Lively participated in ended in an avalanche of legal battles when she sued her It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni last year. Now, the actress is making the rounds to promote her latest film, Another Simple Favor. She’s been able to split press time with co-star Anna Kendrick, but has also made solo stops. Her recent interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers marked her first television appearance since the lawsuit was filed.
“What I can say without going too into it is that this year has been full of the highest highs and the lowest lows of my life,” Lively said. “And I see so many woman around, afraid to speak — especially right now — afraid to share their experiences. And fear is by design. It’s what keeps us silent. But I also acknowledge that many people don’t have the opportunity to speak. So I do feel fortunate that I’ve been able to. And it’s the women who have had the ability to use their voice that’s kept me strong and helped me in my belief and my fight for the world to be safer for women and girls.”
In December 2024, Lively filed a legal complaint that alleged Baldoni engaged in sexual misconduct on set and hired a PR firm to discredit her when It Ends With Us was released this past summer. Baldoni denied and countered the allegations with a $400 million suit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist, alleging they defamed and extorted him. He also sued the New York Times after the outlet broke the story of Lively’s legal action and his own former publicist for allegedly leaking text messages.
Lively described this period as being an “intense year,” but noted that she finds comfort in her children. “They’re just my lifeline,” she said. “No matter what day I’m having, I have to be Disneyland for them.” She also joked that she was glad Meyers wasn’t as up to date on the ongoing legal battle as he would be if he were still on Saturday Night Live. “I’m thrilled you’re not doing Weekend Update right now,” she said, “because you would be quite informed.”
