Converse Re-Releases Collab with Cult Brand A-COLD-WALL

Converse and A-COLD-WALL, the British label founded as a response to London’s street culture, have re-released their high-top collab due to demand, which initially debuted in the fall of last year.

The brutalist Chuck 70s blends Converse’s cult classic high-top design with A-COLD-WALL’s minimalist style, showcasing a canvas upper with reflective film printed at the lateral, metallic branded coding, and translucent foxing around the shoe’s base. While the first color wave seems somewhat traditional, an off-white leading tone with contrasting tongue in deep gray, it’s the second rendition, a fraternal twin to the first, that has us excited.

Dyed in the same deep gray displayed on the tongue of the first colorway, everything from the translucent foxing, the laces, and the circled Converse branding really pops on this one. Even the reflective film and branding printed on the lateral seems more enticing in its frost blue tone.

This level of detail that A-COLD-WALL presents in all of their works keeps Converse coming back for more. Founded by Dr. Samuel Ross in 2015, the brand exploded post-pandemic as Black labels found the spotlight, partly due to the Black Lives Matter Movement. His vision to exposé the attire of the British working class also came at the right time as discussion around maximalism’s fade took a stronghold in the style zeitgeist.

“I’d come from a place where fashion did not exist,” Ross explains in an 032c interview on his upbringing in Brixton, a borough just south of London’s epicenter. “We only had uniform. People wore uniforms to work, and you wore uniforms to signal what tribe you were a part of – mine being nylon orNikegrey jersey. We didn’t have fashion. That wasn’t allowed in our space or scope or projection of our identity.”

Since the collab debut last year, Converse has released (and re-released) a low-top version ($105) of the collab, as well as a solid forest green colorway ($110) that debuted earlier this month. It seems like the partnership is only getting stronger as footwear and style enthusiasts await the next drop. For now, however, the re-release of the high-top collab has been restocked on Converse.com for $110, and is expected to sell out quickly.
