Perception check, intrepid heroes: Dungeons & Dragons is teaming up with Converse to release a limited-edition collab to celebrate the game’s 50th anniversary, available online starting April 11. Ready for retro roleplayers, the collection of new shoes and apparel have been designed around elements from the earliest sourcebooks, including monsters, evil wizards, and, of course, dragons.

With prices starting at $35, the collection offers several exclusive Chuck Taylor All Stars and Chuck 70 designs that feature illustrations and other assets from the very first edition ofD&D’s player manual (1977-1983), back when the game was still called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. The canvas on the All Stars features IYKYK illustrations of Kelek the Sorcerer, Warduke the Fighter, and Zarak the Assassin from theEighties D&Daction figure line and the 1983 supplement “The Shady Dragon Inn“.

There’s also an alternate version of the star logo on the Chuck 70s leather high-tops, molded to resemble a 20-sided dice used for playingD&D instead. For the kids, there’s a pair oflow-topandhigh-top sneakersthat even feature a D20 on the side that “rolls” when you walk. The level of detail is insane here, with some sizes featuring the history of the game on the tongue lining, and select pairs also having printed a character sheet design on the opposite lining, so you can add personalized player names and the stats of your characters on your kicks.

Even the Chuck 70 shoebox has been lovingly transformed into a Mimic, the creature found in “Monster Manuel” and the D&D: Honor Among Thieves film. There are also smaller nods to the game throughout the pairs, including the text “The Dice Taketh Away” (which I have definitely said on more than one occasion during my campaign).

The apparel collection show off some neat classic D&D design elements on hats, sweatshirts,t-shirts, andshorts — like Dave Trampier’s cover artwork for theAdvanced Dungeons & Dragonsplayers handbook, or his illustration from the first editionMonster Manual. Certain design elements and illustrations will also be available in theConverse By Youcustomization platform, so you can apply them to your party’s own bespoke apparel. Personally, I can’t get enough of the trucker hat that says “Beware…your Dungeon Master is smiling!” (which is when you should probably say your final words before a TPK).
