Migrant Detainees Shot in Attack at Dallas ICE Facility

Three individuals were shot at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)field office in Dallas on Wednesday morning. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that “ICE law enforcement was not injured.” One migrant detainee was killed and two more are in critical condition, according to DHS.

In a preliminary assessment given to CNN, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons indicated that the shooter was a suspected sniper that had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The facility is not an ICE detention center, but a short-term processing facility for recently detained migrants. In a post on social media, Dallas police wrote that “the preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building. Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased.”

An FBI official said the bureau had “seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature.” Donald Trump’s FBI Director Kash Patel posted an image of several rounds, one of which appeared to say “ANTI-ICE” on it.

“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical [sic] motive behind this attack,” Patel wrote on X, adding, “These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off.”

Other members of the Trump administration quickly linked the attack to violence against law enforcement.

“While we don’t know [the] motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X.

Vice President J.D. Vance wrote in a separate post that “the obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Noem said, “For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences. Comparing ICE day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences.”
