David Schwimmer is the latest Friends cast member to pay tribute to his late co-star Matthew Perry following the actor’s death in October.
“Thank you for ten incredible years of laughter and creativity,” Schwimmer wrote to his friend “Matty” on Instagram.
“I will never forget your impeccable comic timing and delivery. You could take a straight line of dialogue and bend it to your will, resulting in something so entirely original and unexpectedly funny it still astonishes.”
Schwimmer continued, “And you had heart. Which you were generous with, and shared with us, so we could create a family out of six strangers.”
The tribute was accompanied by a photo of Schwimmer’s Ross and Perry’s Chandler in Miami Vice-style outfits. The still comes from the fan-favorite 1998 episode “The One With All the Thanksgivings.”
“This photo is from one of my favorite moments with you. Now it makes me smile and grieve at the same time,” Schwimmer wrote. “I imagine you up there, somewhere, in the same white suit, hands in your pockets, looking around—’Could there BE any more clouds?’”
The surviving Friends cast initially issued a joint statement remembering Perry after his death. “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew,” they said. “We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
In recent days, individual members have started sharing their own tributes to the actor, who played Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom. On Wednesday, Jennifer Aniston also shared her own tribute to Perry, a day after Matt LeBlanc and Courteney Cox posted theirs on social media.
