Jimmy Kimmel reveled in the unsurprising fact that Donald Trump is still grumbling about that joke Kimmel made about him at the Oscars — checks notes — nine long days ago.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, the late-night host shared some extended clips from a recent Fox News interview where the ex-pres, with numerous indictments to his name, was asked about his long-simmering feud with Kimmel and the Truth Social post Kimmel read during the Oscars. Again, Trump called Kimmel a “lousy host” and “not a talented guy,” prompting Kimmel to quip, “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Donald Trump has said I’m not talented so many times Eric is starting to get jealous.”
Kimmel continued: “But what he doesn’t realize is that I love this. I love that this bothered him so much, I love that Fox picked a news guy nobody knows to interview him, and I especially love when he tries to spin the fact that everyone was laughing at him into a positive.”
Indeed, Trump seemed to boast about the Oscars bit going viral, but in a way that somehow made Kimmel look like the fool (we’re not gonna try too hard to strain our brain following that logic). But of course, Kimmel noted that the part that did spread was his punchline — “Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still up — isn’t it past your jail time?” — which has since been put on all kinds of merch, even a few billboards, and emblazoned in chalk outside of Trump Tower.
“But if only I’d kept my mouth shut,” Kimmel joked. “Imagine him telling anyone they should’ve kept their mouth shut. That should be on his tombstone: ‘Should’ve kept his mouth shut.’”
