'Euphoria' Season 3 Is Delayed, But Sam Levinson Still 'Committed' to New Episodes

Euphoria Season 3 is coming — just not soon. In a new statement on Monday, HBO revealed that while creator Sam Levinson was still “committed” to making a third season of the hit drama, any projected premiere dates have been postponed. Variety reported that scripts for Season Three are still being written.

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told the outlet. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Delays seem to be part of Euphoria‘s DNA. After Season One aired in 2019, Season Two had to be delayed due to the COVID pandemic and didn’t air until 2022. The third season started facing delays last year following the tragic death of Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, last July, and the Hollywood writers and actors strikes.

The “pursue other opportunities” HBO quote may reference how several Euphoria stars have had major success since this show first aired in 2019. Hunter Schaffer starred as Tigris inThe Hunger Gamesprequel (2023), Jacob Elordi played the “King of Rock’n’ Roll” in A24’sPriscilla(2023) and a leading role in the critically acclaimed Saltburn, while Zendaya just wrapped her role as Chani inDune: Part Twoearlier this month (withLuca Guadagino’s Challengersreleasing in April).

“I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” Elordi joked about the show while speaking to Jimmy Fallon. “I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”

The new statement from HBO also comes 10 days after Sydney Sweeney hinted that she’d be heading back to Euphoria.

The actress responded with a coy “Maybe” and “I don’t know” toMTV host Josh Horowitz’s questionsabout whether Sweeney planned to get in front of the camera or read any scripts for Euphoria. When asked about her anticipation for resuming production, the actress said she was excited and called her acclaimed cast members and crew “family.” “I always feel like I go home,” she said. “It’s like home when I go back to it. I like it.”

Last May, HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi shared that the show would probably not return until 2025.

Euphoriais one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production onIdolbut at this point, we don’t have countless scripts,” Orsi said. “We can’t start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam, who at this point is all pencils down and just finishing posts onIdol.”

There will also be major cast changes ahead of Season Three: Barbie Ferriera revealed she wouldn’t return as Kat for Season 3 back in 2022, and the new season will have to work without Fezco.
