Fever Ray has shared an irrepressible new remix of “Carbon Dioxide” — a track off their acclaimed LP Radical Romantics — from DJ/producer/songwriter Avalon Emerson.
Both Emerson and Fever Ray’s Karin Dreijer have been teasing the remix for a few months now, with Emerson slipping it into summer festival setlists and Dreijer playing it on their Resident Advisor mix earlier this year. The remix finds Emerson ramping up the original groove to a swift, double-time pace as a repeating synth mantra bubbles up around Dreijer’s vocals.
In a statement, Dreijer said of the new remix, “I’m very happy for this one! It has fruitiness, a bit of extra everything, exactly what the song wanted. We started sending stuff back and forth early on and some of my first vocal recordings ended up in there as well.”
Fever Ray released Radical Romantics back in March, marking their first new album in six years, following 2017’s Plague. The album notably featured contributions from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, while Dreijer also worked closely with their brother and bandmate in the Knife, Olof Dreijer.
Since the release of Radical Romantics, Fever Ray has regularly shared remixes of the album tracks. Prior to Emerson’s new version of “Carbon Dioxide,” they dropped remixes by Nifra, DJ HARAM, Equiknoxx, God Colony, Ivory, Logic1000, and LSDXOXO.
Fever Ray has a short North American tour on the horizon, starting Nov. 5 at Emo’s in Austin and wrapping Nov. 18 at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City. Next year, they’ll embark on a European and U.K. run, with shows kicking off in February.
