Some of the best music is born from collaboration, whether it’s John Lennon and Paul McCartney or the hit-making factory of Holland, Dozier, Holland. But not every collaboration has to be harmonious to sound harmonious, and no band better embodies that than Fleetwood Mac, whose creative peak coincided with affairs, drug abuse, and no shortage of infighting.
A new book aims to dissect the band’s creative output. Fleetwood Mac: All the Songs is penned by French journalists Olivier Roubin and Romuald Ollivier, and, as the name suggests, explores the band’s entire oeuvre. The book, from publisher Black Dog & Leventhal, arrived this week and is available to order now. The book is available from Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.

Given that the authors sought to include all of the songs, as well as photos and information about the band’s members, this book is a hefty 600-plus pages. One of the appeals of a volume like this is going beyond well-trod tracks like “Dreams” to the deep album cuts that made Fleetwood Mac one of the most interesting bands of the 20th century.
Ollivier told People magazine, “We studied everything we could get our hands on: biographies, autobiographies, documentaries, websites, fan forums. Anything that could shed light on the subject. We had to cross-check a lot of information to flush out the small discrepancies and solve the minor mysteries.”
The latest book is the 10th in the All the Songs series by publisher Black Dog & Leventhal, following books on classic rock mainstays The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Elton John, and Dolly Parton.
Fleetwood Mac fans have more to look forward to, as an Apple TV documentary about the band is in the works. The as-yet-untitled doc will feature interviews with the band’s surviving core members, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie.
