Ghostbusters ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts, but they are scared of extreme climate change in the teaser trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the latest installment in the ghoul-fighting franchise.
The sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife — which introduced a new proton-packing team featuring Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon — returns the franchise to New York City, where a notoriously hot summer day is overtaken by a cold front that literally freezes people to death.
“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level,” Sony Pictures said in a synopsis. “But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”
Whereas Afterlife only teased the participation of the old Ghostbusters crew in trailers — their involvement wasn’t confirmed until audiences actually saw the movie — Frozen Empire is up front that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson all return for the latest chapter, which was directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Jason Reitman, director of Afterlife and son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman.
Mckenna Grace, Logan Kim, and Celeste O’Connor also reprise their Afterlife roles, while Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani join the cast for this adventure, hitting theaters on March 29, 2024.
