Haley Joel Osment must attend at least three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for six months, as a result of his arrest in April, a California judge ruled on June 2. People reports that Osment faced an arraignment due to his April 8 arrest at a Mammoth Lakes, California ski lodge on charges of alleged public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.
The judge also ordered Osment to meet with his therapist at least twice a week for the next six months and obey all laws as a part of a one-year diversion the Sixth Sense star requested. If he successfully meets the requirements, the court will dismiss the charges against him, but if not, criminal proceedings would resume. Osment’s next court date will be Jan. 5, 2026.
Per People, the Mono County district attorney unsuccessfully objected to Osment’s diversion request citing his prior DUI conviction from 2006, and the actor’s use of an antisemetic slur against a police officer while being arrested, captured via body cam. Osment later issued an apology for his behavior via the New York Post. “Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” Osment said. “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place. But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word.”
Osment lost his home in the Eaton Fire earlier this year. Over the years, he has been involved in occasional legal trouble. In his 2006 DUI, he was also charged with marijuana possession after being involved in a car crash, and was sentenced to three years probation. In 2018, police were called when Osment was described as an “unruly passenger” at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. At the time of his recent ski lodge arrest, he was also described as an “unruly skier.”
“From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts,” he continued in his previous statement. “What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”
