Wicked became an instant hit at the box office, with the movie musical debuting with a record-breaking $114 million on opening weekend. That number helped Wicked open as the biggestbox officelaunch of all time for a Broadway adaptation. It also racked up awards nominations, including a Best Director win for John M. Chu at the Critics Choice Awards and nominations at the Oscars, where it picked up trophies for Best Production Design and Best Production Design.

The film is available on UHD, HD, or SD, and costs the same regardless of the format purchased. Prefer a physical copy? The film dropped on Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 4. The physical release includes both the original, theatrical version, as well as a singalong version.
Amazon also released a limited-edition Wicked box set that features the film on 4K UHD Blu-ray, along with a set of gold-tone metal bookends, exclusive merch, and collectible packaging, which quickly sold out and is available through secondhand Amazon sellers.

The original Wizard of Oz film celebrated its 85th anniversary last year, and Amazon has a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray steelbook release for $55 (as of this writing). This “theater edition” features the original 1939 film plus reproductions of the film’s official premiere invitation, replica ticket and program, eight lobby cards, and a set of four posters.
In addition to Grande and Erivo, Wicked stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Wicked: Part two is set to premiere in theaters in November 2025. The film has the official title of Wicked: For Good.
