Not one to shy away from difficult subjects, Half His Age follows a seventeen-year-old as she pursues her creative writing teacher. In an interview with Vogue, McCurdy explained, “I really wanted to write about sex. I wanted to explore consumerism—rampant consumerism—and its effects on young people, as well as the complicated aspects of desire.”
McCurdy’s memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, is currently being adapted into an Apple TV+ series starring Jennifer Aniston. The series will be written and produced by McCurdy and Ari Katcher, known for his work on Ramy and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.
McCurdy’s memoir chronicled disturbing incidents at Nickelodeon, where she starred in iCarly and Sam and Kat. McCurdy claimed she was offered $300,000 to refrain from publicly discussing her experiences at the network, which she turned down.
In the Vogue interview, McCurdy said, “Something I learned from the first book that I really wanted to take into this one is that the more uncomfortable something is to write, the more important it is to write. Finding and writing those ugly truths is meaningful to me.”
