Jennifer Love Hewitt Delivers That One 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Line in Sequel Trailer

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are back in their summer slasher era. On Tuesday, Sony Pictures shared the trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer, a direct sequel to 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, co-starring Chase Sui Wonders and Madelyn Cline.

The trailer for the film, out July 18, begins with a wedding toast before Cline’s character opens a greeting card scrawled with the film’s titular threat. It then flashes back several months to a crash scene involving Cline and her friends, who quickly decide to flee.

“What if someone saw us?” asks one friend. “Outside of us, no one knows what happened. Right?” adds Cline before creepy scenes play of her partner being stabbed in the heart by a mysterious killer. From there, the group seek out the help of Prinze Jr.’s character, Ray, then find Hewitt’s Julie James, who tells the group, “You can’t run. You can’t hide. You get them before they get you… It’s personal to them.”

The trailer teases the film’s July release with action, booby traps, and terrified faces. “What are you waiting for?” asks Hewitt, reviving her iconic line from the original 1997 film.

Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, andJonah Hauer-King also star in the film. Hewitt revealed she was returning to the franchise in an Instagram post last December, writing, “It’s never too late to go back. Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer.”

Based on a 1973 book, the originalI Know What You Did Last Summerturned Hewitt into a star after she featured as protagonist Julie James, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Prinze Jr. The slasher flick focused on four friends running from a vengeful hook-handed fisherman who they left for dead in a hit and run a year prior.
