Jon Batiste stopped by The Late Show to showcase a rousing rendition of his Grammy-nominated song “Worship.” The musician performed the track with a live band and a dynamic group of back-up singers who brought an upbeat, celebratory vibe to the late-night stage.
“Worship” appears on Batiste’sseventh studio album,World Music Radio, released in August. The LP followed his hit 2021 album,We Are, whichfamously wonseveral Grammys, including Album of the Year. Batiste is againnominated for a bunch of Grammysthis year, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year for “Worship,” and Song of the Year for “Butterfly.”
Last month, Batiste released a stunning new ballad of enduring love, “It Never Went Away,” written for a new documentary,American Symphony, about Batiste and his partner, the author-artist, Suleika Jaoaud.
The film, directed by Matthew Heineman, follows Batiste and Jaouad over a tumultuous year in their life as Batiste composes his first symphony and Jaouad undergoes treatment for lung cancer. “It Never Went Away” — which Batiste co-wrote with Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson (who’s also collaborated with artists from Adele to Taylor Swift) — acknowledges that turmoil, but ultimately celebrates a strong, serene love that transcends everything.
American Symphonypremiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year, and hit Netflix on Nov. 29.Rolling Stone‘s David Fear called the film the “music doc of the year.”
