As the clock struck midnight on Friday the 13th, Judas Priest rolled out “Panic Attack” — the first slice of their upcoming album Invincible Shield.
The group’s 19th studio album is set for release on March 8, 2024, and was revealed earlier this month during their appearance at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California. The band filled in for former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, who was scheduled to headline at the festival,butwithdrew due to ongoing health issues.
Judas Priest previously released a 30-second trailer for the album featuring guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner and ending with a flaming shield with the band’s trident logo, hinting at what they have in store. The forthcoming LP follows up 2018’sFirepower, whichRolling Stonehailed as one of theBest Metal Albums of that year.
Shortly after the album’s release, the group will embark on a world tour in 2024, with the U.K. leg beginning in Glasgow on March 11 that will be followed by a show at London’s OVO Wembley Arena on March 21.
Last year, the band marked their long-awaited induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and welcomed estranged membersK.K. Downing, their original guitarist,and former drummerLes Binksto join them onstage. Tipton, who has been sidelined for years byParkinson’s Disease, was also back for the one-time only Priest past-and-present superjam.
Halford acknowledged the group’s half-century history that night: “We should get out another 50 years, but the joy about music is that it lives forever,” he said. “And that’s the reason why we’re here. We live for heavy metal. We live for music. And we’re living for theRock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
