Lorde has a penchant for cryptic social media usage, dating to her days of running a secret onion ring-rating account. On Wednesday, she wiped her Instagram and TikTok pages and uploaded a short 15-second clip of her walking, set to a snippet of new music. She also changed her profile picture on Instagram and TikTok to a photo of her hand holding an ombre reusable water bottle.
The significance (if any) of the water bottle profile picture is unclear, but the vessel in question is Snow Peak‘s Aurora Bottle in “Multicolor,” which retails for between $150 and $185. The water bottle was first ID’d by New York Magazine from Lorde’s Instagram story in February 2024. That means that while the bottle is expensive, it presumably has a good CPS value (cost per sip).

Snow Peak is known for making design-forward (and expensive) outdoor gear, including tents, camp cookware, and chairs. The Japanese brand uses high-end materials, and the Aurora water bottle is made of titanium, which is lightweight and durable (but dent-prone). The multicolored version is adonized, helping protect it from rust and contaminants, and it has a 27-ounce capacity, according to the product description.
Some fans on Reddit suggested the color scheme has to do with themes of “aura” and even sobriety. One user suggested she simply took a photo of it because it was in front of her. Others joked she was hydrating fans after a long drought, as her last full-length album was 2021’s Solar Power.
She has released several collaborations and covers since then, including a cover of the Talking Heads’ Take Me to the River (itself an Al Green cover), “Girl, So Confusing” with Charli XCX, and a collaboration with fellow Kiwi musician Marlon Williams on his Maori-language song “Kāhore He Manu E.” But the drought for new solo music may be coming to an end.
