How does Tommy Hilfiger do summer? By whisking away the brand’s most notable fans to the sandy beaches of Soho House Canouan (dubbed “The Hilfiger Resort”) in the Caribbean for some sunshine, snorkeling…and to shoot Tommy’s new summer campaign. Appearing in the spread are a lot of familiar faces when it comes to the Hilfiger family, including Patrick Schwarzenegger, Madelyn Cline, and Lukas Gage.

Gage, fresh off his roles in the thriller Companion and cult classic Smile 2, talked about why he keeps coming back to the Tommy brand. “I always fall back to them with the light linen polos, the wide-legged pants, I like to keep it kind of cool and breezy,” says Gage. “I think the maximalist style of this collection, they’re doing more prints and more patterns and I think they’re taking bigger swings.”

The brand’s new collection is inspired by coastal getaways, not unlike the Caribbean backdrop that Gage and his famous friends were whisked away to. “‘The Hilfiger Resort’ was the ideal setting for an eclectic summer getaway done the Tommy way: effortless, elegant, and always with our signature twist on classic style,” the brand said about the work-hard-play-hard Canouan vacation.

Gage tells Rolling Stone that his roots with the brand run deep: “I’ve been wearing Tommy for a long time since I was a kid. I have always loved the comfortability and the self expression of the clothes.” The actor and creator has become a mainstay at Tommy’s events. He went on the brand’s summer trip last year (to Mykonos, Greece) and pulled up to Hilfiger’s event during 2023 Miami F1 weekend celebrating the Tommy x Mercedes AMG F1 x Awake NY collaboration.

When it comes to Gage’s personal style, there’s certainly been an evolution. He hasn’t always been the heartthrob popping out in fresh linen shirts. While he now says his style is more relaxed with a simple flair (“but not too crazy, not too loud”) inspired by Nineties fashion, he has some wearer’s remorse when reminiscing on some past fits.
“I used to wear the ugliest clothes of all time,” Gage says with a laugh. “I look back on what I would wear six years ago at like my first carpet or my first event and I think I was really trying to take swings that didn’t feel right for me.”

One that sticks out in his mind? The white blazer and shorts the actor wore at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in 2021, which Gage calls “the most harrowing look I’ve ever worn.”
“Wearing shorts on a carpet is just an absolute no-go and I will always be haunted by those photos for the rest of my life,” Gage says. Luckily, Tommy Hilfiger came to the rescue: In the new summer campaign, Gage rocks a stylish black striped crochet shirt and linen polo.
When it comes to womenswear, the collection includes refined summer dresses, beachwear, and even a gold button scoop neck tank that Cline wears in the campaign.

Other than both being on the getaway with Tommy Hilfiger, Schwarzenegger and Gage have known each other for a long time. The two took acting classes together and did the Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse movie over nine years ago. Recently, the two have gotten to bond over both appearing in different seasons of the cultural phenomenon that is The White Lotus.
“We were just two green kids on set and so scared to just hit our mark, and now we’re on the same HBO show…it’s been really cool to just watch both of our careers grow and watch our acting abilities grow,” Gage says.
In fact, Gage and Schwarzenegger were together in Canouan days after that scene aired in episode six of the show’s third season. “I was just eating dinner with Patrick and then I was watching him hook up with his brother later that night on the show,” Gage says, praising showrunner Mike White for taking big swings and creating conversation through his art. “It was a very surreal experience.”

Next up for Gage is his brilliantly titled memoir I Wrote This for Attention that he penned during the 2024 Hollywood strike where the actor found himself with a lot of pent-up creative energy.

“I wanted to tell [my stories] in a funny way that could connect with people and talk about some serious issues but in a lighthearted way that can have some humility and fun,” Gage says. Another hope for the memoir: people having “a good fucking time reading it.”
