Megan Thee Stallion is celebrating her first summer as a spirits brand owner and to hear the rapper-turned-entrepreneur tell it, things are just heating up.
Megan’s “Chicas Divertidas” tequila launched February 15 (on her birthday, natch) as the latest celebrity-driven agave spirit to hit the market, and it’s available to buy online now. Released in blanco and reposado expressions, the tequila is made from 100% blue weber agave harvested from the volcanic highlands of Arandas, one of the two main tequila producing regions in Jalisco, Mexico (the other region being Santiago de Tequila). Megan teamed up with the renowned tequila maker Casa Centinela for the production of Chicas Divertidas, drawing on the company’s more than 100 years of experience.
As the name suggests, Chicas Divertidas is designed for good drinks and a good time (the Spanish words literally translate to “fun girls”). The vibe extends to the tequila bottle, inspired by the Angel’s Trumpet flower, which the brand describes as “seductive yet deadly.” Indeed, the flowering plant has been used in the past for shaman rituals and religious ceremonies due in part to its supposed ability to induce hallucinations. While Chicas Divertidas will (hopefully) not induce anything other than a light buzz, the edgy theme continues through the dagger-pierced heart that crowns the bottle, which encapsulates the brand motto: “Keep it cute, classy, and cut-throat.”

Megan calls tequila her “go-to drink,” telling Rolling Stone that “it was important to build a business that’s completely authentic to me and my personal interests.”
We caught up with the rapper to talk about the inspiration behind her tequila brand, how she’s paying tribute to Mexico and what Chicas Divertidas has taught her about being a boss.
Tell us about what inspired the launch of Chicas Divertidas.
Everyone loves tequila! It’s the drink that gets the party started, brings people together and sets the vibe right. I wanted to give the Hotties a premium tequila to enjoy responsibly when they’re outside and having a good time, so I’m really proud that we accomplished that goal.
Why did you choose tequila over other spirits, like whiskey or vodka?
At the end of the day, I realized there wasn’t a tequila available that spoke to me, so I decided to create one. Chicas Divertidas is really an extension of me and the bottle design even reflects that. When I chose my bottle, I wanted to go with colors that reminded me of a sunset because that’s my favorite time of the day. The design was inspired by my love for the Angel’s Trumpet flower and the bottle’s curves also represent my appreciation for curvy bodies.
What was the testing and tasting process like to perfect the liquid that ended up in the bottle?
Creating Chicas was years in the making. Going into the process, I know I definitely didn’t want a super-sweet recipe. I wanted to strike the right balance, and we finally got there, but it took a lot of different tastings. I couldn’t even tell you how many options I tried, but we finally got the right combination to deliver the Blanco and Reposado offerings for the Hotties.
Did you have a chance to go to Mexico? How is this tequila paying tribute to Mexican tradition?
I did and I loved Mexico! The distillery for Chicas is based in Arandas, Jalisco, so it was exciting to learn about the region, the history of tequila production and the rich culture. It’s not just about the agave plants – it’s about the people, the passion, the tradition and the generational craftsmanship that really make the liquid special. I really wanted to immerse myself in the experience and learn about their day-to-day processes. It was an incredible time.

How do you like to drink your tequila?
I like to sip Reposado neat. But if I’m drinking Blanco, I love to occasionally switch it up with a little sparkling water – or club soda – include a splash of lime juice. In Texas, we call that a Ranch Water. It’s super simple, straightforward, and refreshing.
Your music and lyrics are always very confessional but is there anything you have learned from this tequila-making journey that you can share?
I’m learning about what it really takes to be a boss and run a business in the spirits industry. It’s one thing to be a brand partner for a liquor brand, but it’s a completely different challenge and experience when it’s your brand, your tequila and your company. You’re the one making all the tough decisions in all aspects of the business, but I have great friends, mentors and resources around me that have supported me. I’m growing, and this journey is only going to make me better.
