Millie Bobby Brown is a mother. On Thursday, the actress revealed that she and husband Jake Bongiovi have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, via adoption. “We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy,” the couple wrote in a statement on social media. “And then there were 3.”
Brown and Bongiovi, 21 and 23 years old, respectively, married in a private ceremony last year. They initially met on Instagram and began dating in 2021. “I’m still really young, but my mom actually had her first child at 21 and my dad was 19,” the actress said on the Smartless podcast earlier this year. “It’s been my thing since before I met Jake. I wanted to be a mom just like my mom was to me, and my grandmother was a huge part of my life.”
She added, “Jake knows how important it is to me. Of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it so important to start a family, for me personally. It’s a huge thing. Jake was like, ‘We cannot do that until we get married.’ So that was his thing, and my thing was that I really want a family, I really want a big family. I’m one of four, he’s one of four. It’s definitely in our future.”
During that same conversation, Brown brought up the prospect of adopting a child, noting, “I don’t see having your own child as really any different in adopting.”
As this chapter begins, Brown is also preparing to finally close the book on Stranger Things. When the Netflix series first premiered, she was 12 years old. It returns for its fifth and final season this November with the series finale scheduled for New Year’s Eve, just a few weeks shy of her 22nd birthday.
“Isn’t graduation supposed to bring relief, like you’re glad to leave the teachers and classmates?” she asked in a farewell speech when filming wrapped on the final season. “Not me, I am nowhere near ready to leave you guys. I love each and every one of you and I’ll forever carry the memories and bonds we’ve created together as a family. I love you, thank you.”
