In a tribute to Sin City, Orville Peck and Beck perform back-to-back on a roulette wheel and rope in Sharon Stone for a glitzy Casino callback in the music video for their duet “Death Valley High.”
The clip even opens with the words “Peck Beck” in lights, paying tribute to Elvis Presley’s ’68 comeback special. The song, which will appear on Peck’s upcoming Stampede album when it arrives next month, also bears a jaunty resemblance to Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas,” though the King could never rap like Beck.
Austin Peters, who has made videos for Peck in the past, helmed the clip, which also features an appearance by Gigi Goode, who previously appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well as Stone in Casino mode. But the real star for Peck and Beck is Las Vegas. “Sin City lights, spin the wheel around and roll the dice,” they sing. “Death Valley high, gonna let it run like the devil’s son tonight.”
Peck has been slow-walking his runup to Stampede, which follows his 2022 album, Bronco, and a short hiatus last year. He released an EP, Stampede: Vol. 1, in May. That release featured Willie Nelson duetting with Peck on a cover of “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other,” which Nelson previously recorded, and Elton John singing his own “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” with Peck.
Stampede, which comes out Aug. 2, includes all the songs from the first edition with eight new tracks, including “Death Valley High.” Kylie Minogue and Diplo join him for “Midnight Ride,” and Margo Price sings “You’re an Asshole, I Can’t Stand You (and I Want a Divorce)” with him, among other highlights.
Beck is currently on the road performing with orchestras around the U.S. He’ll wrap things up later this month with an appearance at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He also recently added vocals to a song with Mark Lanegan for that singer’s first posthumous release, a reissue of Bubblegum.
