Peso Pluma Cancels Tijuana Show Following Alleged Cartel Death Threats

Peso Pluma is canceling a show in Tijuana, Mexico after he received death threats from an alleged cartel if he chose to perform in the city.

On Wednesday, Peso Pluma’s Doble P Records shared a statement on Instagram revealing that Pluma would no longer be performing in the city “for the safety of everyone involved.” The música Mexicana musician was scheduled to perform at Estadio Caliente on Oct. 14.

“Our objective is to protect the fans and the team. For the safety of everyone involved, we’re canceling our show in Tijuana,” the statement read in Spanish. “Thank you to our fans for understanding. We love you.”

Last Thursday, a man allegedly responsible for placing narcomantas, or threatening banners — supposedly on behalf of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación — was arrested in Tijuana, according to the regional prosecutor of Baja California.

“This is for you, Peso Pluma. Don’t show up on Oct. 14 because it will be your last performance,” read the banners, allegedly signed by the cartel. “You are disrespectful and loose-tongued, If you show up we are going to beat the fuck out of you.”

Peso Pluma is quickly becomingone of the biggest artists in the worldas a corridos singer, and some of his songs refer to the narco lifestyle — with references to Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, drugs, and weaponry. Caballero Ramíreztold the media on Wednesdaythat the lyrics draw criminal attention.

“Singers like Peso Pluma glorify crime, so there are certain groups that get upset, and unfortunately those who suffer the consequences are the citizens who want to attend their concerts and are then put at risk,” she said.

Several Mexican outlets claim that the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación found issue with Pluma’s track “Siempre Pendientes” with Luis R Conriquez, on which he sings, “I take care of Mr. Guzmán’s plaza,” referring to El Chapo and his Sinaloa Cártel.
