As the band’s frontman, Josh Homme, continues to recover from an unspecified surgery earlier this month, Queens of the Stone Age have canceled a number of European festival appearances in August. The group made an announcement on Friday.
“Due to continued medical care, it is under doctors’ orders that Josh Homme remain in their care in the United States,” the band wrote in a statement posted to social media. “The Homme family and QOTSA are so grateful for the outpouring of well wishes and kind understanding during this time.”
In early July, the band canceled an appearance at Italy’s AMA Music Festival, citing illness. A few days later, the band reported that Homme needed to return to the U.S. “immediately for emergency surgery.” The messaging did not specify the need for an operation. “Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue,” the group said at the time.
The cancellations at the time included appearances in France, Germany, and Greece, among other countries. Friday’s announcement sees them canceling gigs at Sweden’s Way Out West, Norway’s Oya, the Netherlands’ Lowlands, and Belgium’s Pukkelpop, among others.
A rep for Queens of the Stone Age did not immediately reply to Rolling Stone’s request for comment on Homme’s condition.
The band’s upcoming North American tour dates are still on, though, per its website. The fall run kicks off in Boston in September and is scheduled to run through a November gig in Mexico City. The group is touring in support of their latest album, In Times New Roman …, which came out last year.
