It’s been a busy day for Hunger Games fans. It was announced that Elle Fanning was cast as Effie Trinket in Sunrise on the Reaping, slated to hit theaters on Nov. 20, 2026. She joins the likes of Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Maya Hawke in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, which was published in March.
In addition, publisher Scholastic announced a new collector’s edition of the novel today, slated to arrive on Nov. 4, 2025. The collector’s edition features a redesigned cover, plus stained edges with stenciled art.

The collector’s edition features a bold fore-edge floral design and an intricate cover, plus full-color endpapers. Sunrise on the Reaping is currently the #5 bestseller on Amazon’s book list, as of this writing. It’s also available as an audiobook, narrated by Jefferson White, best known for his role in Yellowstone.
Is Sunrise on the Reaping a Prequel?
This is the secondprequel to the original Hunger Gamesbook trilogy, followingThe Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which was released in 2020. Sunrise takes place 40 years after the events of that novel and 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games. Sunrise on the Reaping follows a new group of characters as they prepare for the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games (also known as the “Second Quarter Quell”). Of course, readers of the other books will know that — spoiler — Haymitch Abernathy won the Games, leading to retribution from President Snow.
