Listen to Reneé Rapp Wish the 'World Burn'

The new big-screen adaptation ofMean Girlsis just a few days away, andReneé Rappis dropping a single from the movie to tide you over.

“World Burn,” sung by Rapp and the cast ofMean Girls: The Musicalis out now and available to streamhere. The song is one of the musical numbers from the 2018 Broadway show, in which Rapp starred as Regina George. The singer and songwriter now reprises her breakout role in the new film from the producers of the original, Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels.

The full Mean Girls soundtrack will be released on Jan. 12, via Interscope Records, alongside the film’s theatrical release. It will feature songs from the movie’s stars, including Rapp asRegina George,Angourie RiceasCady Heron,and Auli’i CravalhoasJanis ‘Imi’ike. The soundtrack will also feature hit record “Not My Fault” by RappandMegan Thee Stallion.

The single“Not My Fault”arrived a month beforeMean Girls: The Musical’s theatrical release, and earned Rapp’s highest ever day one streams on Spotify to date, with over 984,000 streams within the first 24 hours, 5M streams within the first weekend globally, and now at over 10M streams across all platforms. “Not My Fault” is one of the songs composed exclusively for the film to feature on the soundtrack. The single itself won’t be incorporated into the musical, serving as a bonus for the companion album.

Rapp starred inMean Girls: The Musicalon Broadway when she was just 19 years old, but only because she saw it as a stepping stone to the career she really wanted, Rapp toldRolling Stoneearlier this year about her conversations with Fey and Michaels. “I told them, ‘I will only take this job if you promise to help me in my music career one day. I want to be a pop star. I do not want to do this forever.’”

She went on to release her debut album,Snow Angelin August of last year.In a review of the record,Rolling Stonewrote: “Snow Angel allows Rapp to channel her larger-than-life emotions into twisty pop songs that take big swings while being keenly aware of the human at their core.”

Rapp is next set to perform onSaturday Night Liveon Jan. 20.
