Role Model is making his silver screen debut. On Monday, Good Thing Going Productions announced that the musician, who’ll go by his given name Tucker Pillsbury, will appear alongside Mark Ruffalo in Good Sex, an upcoming rom-com starring Natalie Portman.
Lena Dunham is directing the Netflix film, whose script she co-wrote and produced for her GTG production company, alongside Michael Cohen.
“Everyone say thank you lena <3,” Pillsbury said on Instagram, sharing the news along with a photo of Dunham with a heart doodle around her face. Portman and Sophie Mas are also producing Good Sex.
Good Sex follows Portman as a couples therapist named Ally, who is turning 40 and getting back into the dating scene in New York after a decade “in a failed relationship,” per a synopsis. Ally then meets two men—one in his twenties and one in his fifties—who teach her all about, as the film title suggests, good sex. (Guess which of the men Pillsbury and Ruffalo play.)
“We can count on Mark… but Role Model? Heard the grapevine he can be a diva,” joked the production company on Instagram with the announcement, referencing his breakout, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.”
The film will be Pillsbury’s on-screen debut, and comes as he’s gained notoriety following the release of his album Kansas Anymore last July. When asked by Rolling Stone in April what’s coming for him, he said, “Honestly, who even knows? Anything.” For his part, Ruffalo last starred in 2024’s Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho and starring Robert Pattinson. He’ll also appear in September’s Task.
