One thing that sticks out about the Spanish artist Rusowsky is that he’s incredibly skilled at mixing playful, bouncy beats with a lot of unabashed, heart-on-your-sleeve feeling. His recent release, a collaboration with rapper BB Trickz called “uwu^^,” happened because Trickz was drawn to a hazy demo he sent her by accident. “Rus’ team made a mistake and sent us a record that wasn’t supposed to ever come out. It was so beautiful, it made me cry, so I told them that if they didn’t give it a release I was gonna leak it,” BB Trickz explained in a statement.
Now, Rusowsky has another offering: an equally dream track called “ALTAGAMA.”The track starts with sunny production as Rusowsky sings about having a child-like crush on a girl, emphasizing her natural style and personality. “No lleva gucci/ me pone loca/esa niña high class,” he sings. (“She doesn’t wear Gucci/she drives me crazy/that girl has class.”
The video, directed by Fomotrauma, is equally playful and shows Rusowsky hanging out in a club with designer, over-the-top clothes on. He bounces from crowd to crowd, high-fiving and fist-pumping all kinds of groups, from a bunch of magicians perfecting their tricks to a crew of naked women hanging out in a hot tub. The surreal imagery captures the style and aesthetic Rusowsky has been toying with since he started releasing music.
The song follows “SOPHIA,” which came out a few weeks ago. All the tracks are leading up to a long-anticipated album from the Madrid-based producer, singer, and instrumentalist, out on Rusia-IDK / Warner Records later this year.
