My nerdy hobby is birdwatching, but often, I can’t be bothered to bring a bulky pair of binoculars on a hike. That’s why I was excited to check out Nocs Provisions new Zero Tube, which is an incredibly compact and lightweight monocular. The textured grip makes it easy to handle, and the clip easily attaches to any bag or belt. It also easily slipped into my bike’s handlebar bag for birding by bike.
It has 10x magnification, and while the 25mm objective lens doesn’t allow for the most stunning detail, it keeps the weight down. After all, “the best camera is the one you have with you,” and the same is true of binoculars. – J.Z.

I’m in the process of testing several bookshelf speakers, and this Marantz Horizon is going to be hard to top. The high-end unit performs as good as it looks, providing the best sound I’ve ever heard from an individual speaker. Whether it’s blasting bassy dance music (sorry, neighbors) or humming out low-volume bossa nova, the room-filling sound is deep and clear. It can also connect to two devices at the same time, so two headphone users can enjoy content from the same screen. It’s not just for travel, either — it’s both a receiver and a transmitter, so you can stream audio from your phone to a speaker, such as workout equipment or an older car.
While I didn’t have any flights coming up, I tried it out using my home stereo system, and was impressed by how quickly it paired with my smartphone and headphones. The connection was also impressively stable, and didn’t drop out as I moved from room to room. It weighs just 17 grams, but has a stated battery life of 25 hours, getting you through all but the longest of long haul flights.
